Lotus Temple

The Lotus Temple, a significant tourist attraction in Delhi is also known as the Bahai Temple. The Lotus Temple is located right at the opposite of the old Kalkaji Mandir in the southern part of Delhi. The Lotus Temple is one of the most visited tourist attraction in Delhi because this is the only Bahai House of Worship in the entire Asian continent. Apart from that the Lotus Temple is a fine example of architectural beauty. In the mid 19th century Bahai faith came popular in India and thus, we have this fascinating architectural piece in Delhi today. The Lotus Temple is recognized as one of the masterpieces of 20th century architectural skill and one should give all the credits to the genius architect, Fariburz Sabha. It is said that more than 700 laborers and forty engineers were employed for the construction and it took six years to complete the whole House of Worship.

Thus, even if you are not a devotee of Bahia faith, you must visit the Lotus Temple for its fascinating structure and architecture. Interestingly, the temple building was purposely designed in the shape of Lotus just to reflect the multiculturalism essence of Bahia House of Worship. Lotus is the national flower of India and thus it stands for national integration but at the same time, lotus is also associated with all the major Indian religions like Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism. Lotus stands as a symbol of spirituality and purity in today's materialistic world. You must visit the large prayer hall. People of any faith is allowed to do perform prayer activities over there. The hall has no idol and no specific ritual is followed over there and the important sections from the holy books of all the religions are read out. Thus, the Lotus Temple is the perfect manifestation of Indian secularism starting from its structure and design to its temple activities.
